Wyman Got Run Over by a….Deer.

Ha!  Fooled you!  Wishful thinking, I know.

You may recognize the title as a play on words of the song “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”.

I was on my way to meet up with a friend for an informal business meeting, when I out of the blue, I heard a rustle of leaves, and out dashed a deer, of all things.  It came out of from my left, out some neighbor’s yard, cut across the street without using its turn signals, and casually pranced ahead of me.

By this time, I’m thinking “Oh boy! I’ve gotta capture this moment”, all the while fumbling around trying to whip out the digital camera.  See a pattern here?  Even at a casual prance that deer was out of sight in like two shakes of his furry little tail.  Maybe equivalent to thirty seconds.  I almost chased after it, but was trying to buy time to pull out my camera…thinking that if I broke out into a jog or run it would dart off.  Either way I lost its scent.  I looked around, and by now we were in an open area that leads to a creek.  I’d lost the deer.

Ah well, foiled once again by mother nature.  More specifically a deer.

I told this story to my companion I met up with later and she told me her story of how she once saw 6-7 deer walking across a parking lot, single file.  Part of you wants to say aloud, “OMG! LOOK AT THAT!”, but another part insists you remain quiet so as not to startle the animals.

It’s moments like these that help you pause the hustle and bustle of life to “stop and smell the roses”.
